Jon Cox Band
When you think sounds of trains, mountain music mixed with honky-tonk and smooth vocals, you think of Jon Cox. A native to the Ashville area, Jon grew up in the small town of Candler, North Carolina where he sang hymns in church and in middle school, he took a guitar class and began to learn simple chords. He remembers Mr. Nolan, his guitar teacher, being one of his earliest influences playing songs like “Take Me Home Country Roads” and “Joy to the World”. Later in life, Jon worked as a Karaoke DJ and then answered an ad for a singer position in a Johnny Cash Tribute band where he honed his guitar skills. Jon went on to sing for three bands over an eight-year period and currently has his own band called The Jon Cox Band.
The Jon Cox Band was formed in 2018 and performs throughout Western North Carolina. The band’s influences include Waylon Jennings, Dwight Yoakum, Johnny Cash and other similar artists. A four-piece group, The Jon Cox Band showcases outlaw country and Honky-tonk with a focus on high energy, foot-stomping music. The band is currently recording one of Jon’s originals, “A Little Too Late” to be released in January. This year promises to bring exciting live shows and more recordings.
